Is the Golden Gate Bridge Going Up for Sale?
If you believe in economic recovery, I also have a bridge to sell you.
San Jose Mercury News:
Visitors to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge could one day take an elevator to the top of its towers, climb on its cables or get a look at its underbelly.
All three possibilities are being considered under a plan announced by bridge officials Tuesday to enhance the experience of the iconic span while raising additional revenue.
The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District says such tours could generate as much as $9 million a year, helping to plug an estimated $132 million deficit over the next five years.
I have a better idea. Let's make this city even more hostile for tourists and bus in a few extra hundred homeless people. Then we can up the hotel tax to 45% and make sure we keep SFPD off of Muni so as to make the experience more "lifelike" for those out-of-towners with 3 day Muni passes.
Or how about a tip jar next to the crisis counselor phones along the bridge?
