KTVU is reporting that budget problems may cause the Oakland PD to cut 200 cops, which probably will not bode well for our friends in the East Bay:
Oakland Police conducted a sweep Thursday and arrested 26 suspected gang members allegedly involved in drug dealing.
But as the department tries to curb gang activity, KTVU has learned that nearly 200 police officers may be laid off, because of a looming deadline to close the city's budget deficit.
An this internal document from city officials shows just how dire this situation is.
Just six weeks from now, Oakland could be cutting its police force by almost 25 percent.
Darn, just when they'd started to clean things up over there.
