On the topic of missed opportunities ...

WSJ:

President Barack Obama had just signed a bill highlighting the importance of press freedom, and the reporters gathered in the Oval Office were hoping he was in a press-friendly mood.

“Speaking of press freedom, could you answer a couple of questions on BP?” CBS News’ Chip Reid asked, referring to BP PLC and the disasterous oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.

“You’re certainly free to ask them, Chip,” said Obama, who answers questions in these settings much less frequently than his predecessors did.

“Will you answer them? How about a question on Iran?” Reid tried.

“We won’t be answering — I’m not doing a press conference today, but we’ll be seeing you guys during the course of this week,” Obama said. “Okay?”
Fail.

How easy would it have been to take a couple of questions — fuck, give a half-assed answer if you want to — and be done with it. If you want people to think you're the smartest kid in the room, you have to act the part.

The Lazy Paperboy

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.

You know press freedom will never trump executive privilege, especially in the White House. The seeming illogic of it is just assertiveness. We like a strong executive...up to a point, anyway. heheh.

good point, jonah. and this doesn't even get to executive privilege ... just executive arrogance. plus cluelessness.

what a dick
