Broke Philadelphia Strong-Arms Blogger Into Paying For a Business License

If this isn't mafia mentality, I don't know what is.

Philadelphia City Paper:

For the past three years, Marilyn Bess has operated MS Philly Organic, a small, low-traffic blog that features occasional posts about green living, out of her Manayunk home. Between her blog and infrequent contributions to ehow.com, over the last few years she says she's made about $50. To Bess, her website is a hobby. To the city of Philadelphia, it's a potential moneymaker, and the city wants its cut.

In May, the city sent Bess a letter demanding that she pay $300, the price of a business privilege license.

"The real kick in the pants is that I don't even have a full-time job, so for the city to tell me to pony up $300 for a business privilege license, pay wage tax, business privilege tax, net profits tax on a handful of money is outrageous," Bess says.

What a bunch of assholes. We support you, Bess, but you're on your own when it comes to coming up with that $300. I'd say tell 'em to shove it up their asses and go incorporate in Guam but that's just me.

Jr Deputy Accountant

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.

You can't be just figuring out that government is a racket?

Phile's is one of the worst? Get shot? You'll bleed to death before you hear the ambulance. They won't catch the perp.

However leave your car on the street one minute after 7AM and it's GONE.

Ever hear of Tony the Undertaker?
That was House Whip Tony Cohello (D). He perfected the 80's/90's Dem vig collection by "spill juice legislation".

"See what we have here, Mr. Businessman is a piece of legislation that crushes your industry (usually environmental).
Now Fuck You. Pay me."
