Let's Just Completely Ignore the Fact that They're Spying on Us

Take notes, "self-radicalized individuals", Congress knows what you're up to and they don't like it. But the news is going to totally ignore what they just tried to do there and focus simply on the political bitchfighting behind the scenes. Way to prioritize, morons.

Bush may have been the one to introduce the squat and cough or else the terrorists win way of life to America post 9/11 but Chuck Grassley, Mitch McConnell and Saxby Chambliss recently tried to perpetuate it. Too bad it got shot down by Democrats and not-quite-Republicans alike.

First, the statement from Chambliss' office:

“These three provisions are essential tools for our counterterrorism agents in the field. The threat of terrorism isn’t going away so we must provide our agents with the tools they need to get the job done,” Grassley said. “Given that terrorist threats, including those from self-radicalized individuals, continue to evolve, we must ensure that our law enforcement agents are not burdened with new restrictions on existing authorities. We can’t afford to go back to a pre-9/11 mindset and tie the hands of our agents in the field.”

“The provisions in the PATRIOT Act have been integral tools in disrupting terrorist plots and protecting innocent Americans,” said Chambliss. “We must ensure our intelligence personnel have the means to apprehend those who seek to destroy our way of life.”

Are we talking about terrorists destroying America's way of life or are we talking about American subversives who might expose Congressional asshats like this for looting Rome while she burns? I just want to make sure we are clear on whose way of life is in jeopardy.

Too bad the provision failed to garner the 2/3rds it needed and the 277-148 vote means... well... someone will rewrite the provision and try it again until they get their way.

In typical Congressional fashion, House Democrats took the opportunity to rail on how disorganized the Republicans are instead of recognizing that it's pretty awesome to have Tea Partiers who share their views to help them defeat ridiculous legislation.

Top House Democrats pounced on Republicans’ mishandling of a routine vote Tuesday evening, which caused a bill to extend provisions of the Patriot Act go down in defeat.

The Democrats said Wednesday morning that the failed vote is a sign that Republican leaders aren’t prepared to handle the practical difficulties of governing.

“I don’t think they’ve found their center yet,” Democratic Caucus conference chair Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) said. “It seems they’re coming apart at the seams.”

Rank-and-file Republicans threw off Republican leaders’ plans for the measure, which was expected to pass easily, when a large enough number bucked their party and voted no. The measure fell short of the two-thirds vote it needed by 13 votes.

Jesus, you'd think this political thing were all about show and not at all about the best interests of the American people! Crazy!

If I were the Democrats, I'd be grateful for the support. But since we're all a bunch of immature asshats vying for the spotlight, we can't behave like that and have to make this into mud-slinging about leadership.

Guess this new Congress isn't much different from the last after all.

So much for the Tea Party hype. Forty-four of the fifty-two so called tea-party coalition voted to continue to strip you of your liberty and freedom. If you think something can change in DC you are mistaken. Next stop, extend the debt ceiling. Do you understand yet?
